  • The Northern Young Leaders Project is an internship for six young adults from the UK, aged 18 to 30, who want to explore their calling and vocation through a year volunteering in churches, parishes and pioneer projects across Cumbria. Interns join others from around the world who come to Cumbria on a mission exchange. It is part of the Church of England's Ministry Experience Scheme, and the diocese partners with the Norwegian Mission Society. It exists because just under half of Cumbria's clergy could retire within ten years and fewer than one in ten ordained leaders is under 40.

    Who it is for

    Young adults aged 18 to 30 who want a year to test a sense of call and gain real ministry experience, in the UK or coming from overseas on the mission exchange.

    How it runs

    A year-long volunteer placement with a host church, parish or pioneer project, with supervision, formation and vocational accompaniment. The programme is led by the Growing Younger Enabler for Youth, supported by the NYLP coordinator.

    Churches, parishes and pioneer projects across Cumbria. Recruitment runs through the spring and summer for a placement starting in the autumn.
